The devices can instantly share data between them

Smartphones have slowly started to develop into phablets, which basically means handsets with bigger screens, but if their size still leave you craving more, take a look at this new concoction.

The Nanoport magnetic connector is here to connect the smartphones you might have laying around the house. The goal is to create a device with a bigger screen, basically what we’d call a tablet.

Tired of having to make do with tiny screens? Nanoport is here to help

As Slash Gear reports, the folks behind Nano Magnetics have a patent describing a magnetic connector technology called the Nanoport. The system will show its face in real life in a working model as soon as CES 2015 in January 2015 (or next month if you prefer).

Actually, Nano Magnetics presented a mockup back at CES 2014, but in 2015 they say they are ready to showcase the real deal. So get ready to check out the actual thing in a few weeks in Las Vegas.

The neat thing is that the magnets will not only hold your smartphone in place but also allow you to transfer data back and forth between them.

The system will prove quite useful for people who own multiple smartphones or have older models lying around the house unutilized. Another scenario is for friends getting together and combining the forces of their handsets to create a super-screen.

Nano Magnetics doesn’t want to stop here with its innovations. In the future the team behind the project hopes to be able to perfect a system that will connect phones, battery packs, speakers, cameras in order to create the so-called “Nanoport-enabled devices.”

Nanoport can safely transfer data between multiple devices

Nano Magnetics has some bold claims it needs to prove. For starters, it says its technology is capable of transferring data securely and quickly without having to resort to physical cords in the process or any other additional hardware/software for that matter.

The team seems quite confident in the current state of their product so they are gearing up to roll out a developer kit for hardware manufacturers and app developers that will help them build external elements for Nanoport devices.

And while we wait for CES 2015 to open its gates in Las Vegas in a month’s time, we can take a sneak peek at Nanoport preview, which teases “the future is magnetic.”

In the presentation clip, we can see two smartphones being connected to each other while the user experience automatically syncs. Ultimately, a third device is added, but we assume there’s nothing stopping you from adding as many as you have lying around.
