14 DAY TRIAL // NBC talk show host Ronan Farrow is the son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, at least on paper. In a 2013 Vanity Fair piece, the actress addressed an older rumor making the rounds, namely that she’d cheated on Allen with ex-husband Frank Sinatra right at the time Ronan was conceived, so Sinatra could “possibly” be the father.
Ronan himself joked some more on the topic, which further fueled the paternity speculation. Side-by-side comparisons between Ronan and his alleged father and his legal dad do no justice to the latter. Check out the second photo in the gallery to see for yourself.
Nancy Sinatra speaks, isn’t amused
In a rare interview with CBS (video below), Nancy Sinatra, one of Frank’s daughters and a very famous singer on her own, admits that she didn’t find Mia’s joke funny one bit. She and Mia got along very well when Mia was married to Nancy’s father, but they haven’t been in touch.
Still, Nancy would have expected her to be a bit more gracious about the situation. She expected her to have the decency not to joke about such a serious topic, she says.
“I was kind of cranky with Mia for even saying, ‘Possibly,’ - I think the word she used when somebody said, ‘Is that Frank's son?’ ‘Possibly,’” she says. “I was cranky with her for saying that. She knew better, you know, she really did. But she was making a joke! And it was taken very seriously and was just silly, stupid.”
She says even her own father was amused by the rumor (yes, it really is such an old piece of gossip!), but she could never laugh it off because it affected her children. People would come up to them and ask them about it, and it made her very uncomfortable, she says.
When it comes down to directly addressing reports that Ronan could be her brother, Nancy is very blunt: that’s just nonsense, and Mia knows it better than anyone else.
Frank Sinatra had a vasectomy
The reason why Frank couldn’t possibly be Ronan’s father is that Frank couldn’t have any more children. Nancy doesn’t say anything in this respect in the video below, but confirmation comes from his other daughter Tina Sinatra, in a chat with Fox’s Showbiz411.
She too is quick to shut down all talk that Ronan could be their brother, saying her dad had a vasectomy “before that,” of which Mia was very much aware.
In other words, she knew she’d raise hell with her joke and she knew she had no grounds to be making it - but she made it either way, without any consideration to those who might be affected by it.
