NVIDIA's ION platform continues to gain ground in the expanding market for small-sized, portable and desktop computer systems that are powered by Intel's Atom processors. An increasing number of system builders are expanding their portfolios with products that are based on said platform, providing customers with a wider choice, in terms of design. Such is the case with Myka, a system builder that has recently announced the introduction of its ION-based media player, a device that is designed for users looking to browse the Internet and play video content directly to their TV set.

“Technology has finally caught up with what consumers want out of Internet video services,” Myka President Dan Lovy said. “They want to be freed from their computers and watch the growing variety of Web video content on their large-screen, high-definition living room TVs. And they want to do it without a lot of hassle and without video quality suffering. We've heard them loud and clear and we're proud to present the Myka ION, the first product to take advantage of the latest processor technology and finally give Web video consumers what they want.”

Dubbed Myka ION, the new system runs on the more performance-capable, dual-core Atom 330 processor, running at 1.6GHz and coupled with up 2GB of RAM and the familiar GeForce 9400 integrated graphics chipset. There are also three SATA connectors and an expansion slot that can be used for an additional hard drive, or a Blu-ray optical drive, depending on the customer's requirements.

As you'd expect from almost any other NVIDIA ION-based system, the Myka ION is available with a choice for a 160GB hard drive, with support for 5.1 channel audio, Gigabit Ethernet and no Blu-ray drive. Although no word on its availability has yet been made official, the unit is expected to sell for a starting price point of $379.
