Another NVIDIA versus ATI episode is about to begin

With the launching of the ATI Radeon X1800 video solution, the gamers and the rest of the market were able to find out more information about the performances of the long-awaited R520 chip. Although the Radeon X1000 lineup had a delay of almost six months, (the R520's specifications were established one year and a half ago), ATI's graphics solutions stood up to the expectations. Together with the support for Shader Model and the implementation of the Ring memory controller, the R520 platform has generated a revolution compared to the previous generation of graphics solutions.

Nvidia responded to the Canadians' boost by announcing the 512MB GeForce 7800 GTX model. Although still in tests, the solution could appear before the Radeon X1800XT, somewhere in this year's November.

The war between the two companies grows with each passing day, and NVIDIA is prospecting every way in which it could generate more profits. The Geforce 7800 GTX model fitted with 256MB has succeeded in some way to fill the company's treasury, but since ATI has launched the 512MB video cards, the stakes have become even higher.

The 90 nanometer technology is becoming more and more interesting for nVidia, but such video cards will appear, at best, next year.

ATI is also readying an All in Wonder X1800 model, which is now in the prototype stage. It's likely that we will first witness the X1800XL model, and only afterwards the All in Wonder one.
