Asetek reveals new reference version of the video card

If you've been keeping an eye on the video card market, you probably know that NVIDIA launched the GeForce GTX 980 and 970 graphics cards not that long ago. What you might not have heard about, though, is that one company intends to turn the card into a relative of AMD's famed Radeon R9 295 X2 dual-GPU video card.

You might not know it by that name, but maybe Vesuvius rings a bell? That video card from AMD that shipped with a closed-loop water cooler? And which cost half as much as the equivalent board from NVIDIA? ($1,500 / €1,500 versus GTX Titan-Z's $3,000 / €3,000).

Asetek has just leaked a photo of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 single-GPU adapter boasting the same cooler as that particular video device. Or at least one that is largely similar, aesthetically speaking.

The cooler is called ASETEK 740GN and has a shroud cut at the top, to allow the pipes to exit the body.

A Japanese OEM called Sycom will provide the boards, at least at first. If you're an overclocker, you might want to at least check them out.

Unfortunately, other than the cooler, we don't know what modifications may have been done to the adapter. Some factory overclocking was probably involved, but it's also possible that the stock specs were left in place, since buyers will most likely want to perform manual tweaking anyway.
