Santa Clara, California-based NVIDIA is said to have decided to cancel its plans to host this year's NVISION computing show, as a means to reduce costs. According to the company, the current global financial situation has led to a decrease in the number of visitors for the show that was expected to take place sometime in the third quarter of this year. However, the chip added that it would host several smaller forums in fall.

According to Digitimes, graphics chip maker NVIDIA has stated that, due to a reduced number of attendees that have expressed their intention to visit the show, the NVISION event will not take place in 2009. Apparently, the decision to cancel the show is also related to the ongoing worldwide economic crisis, whose effects took their toll on NVIDIA too.

During last year's show, a number of big names have made their appearance, including Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, the hosts of the world renowned TV show “MythBusters.” At the event, NVIDIA wanted to showcase some of the graphics capabilities of its high-end graphics cards, which are now used for more than just gaming. In fact, Adam and Jamie took the stage with an impressive demonstration that was meant to inform people about the differences between a CPU and a GPU in terms of parallel processing power.

Aside from that, the NVISION 08 was the place for a number of graphics-related events, including an LAN party where a number of 203 hardcore gamers set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous LAN party with over 100 participants.

Unfortunately the show will not take place this year, as NVIDIA decided not to host it in 2009. However, for those who were holding their breath until the next NVISION event, the chip maker plans to host several smaller forums this fall.
