NVIDIA's 3D Vision stereoscopic 3D technology has managed to really set itself a stable foothold on the PC gaming market, and it seems that gaming consoles are also set to follow, at some point in the future (near or far).

Of course, tackling the field of gaming consoles won't be at all an easy task, given the fact that, typically, these gaming systems are associated to a whole different set of display solutions (namely, HDTVs, rather than PC monitors).

Nevertheless, according to a report by Xbit Labs, it seems that NVIDIA's not really frightened by the market prospects, and they're quite confident that “Stereo-3D will be a part of future game consoles", as an NVIDIA official was quoted of saying.

To be perfectly honest, while NVIDIA's statement most likely holds a lot of truth to it, the company will certainly have a hard time ahead of it getting in this particular segment, given the fact that the three major manufacturers all have some rather different approaches to this idea.

Without a doubt, the most likely candidates to 3D Vision-related solutions are Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PS3, although nobody knows for sure what the two companies have in store for their future gaming systems.

As far as the Nintendo Wii gaming console is concerned, we're more or less sure that its successor won't have nothing to do with 3D Vision, simply because the Japanese company tackles the whole gaming concept from a whole different angle, not to mention the fact that they've already got their proprietary glasses-free 3D solution implemented in the Nintendo 3DS, and the future Wii might also borrow a little from it.

Of course, ultimately, it's all up to what the manufacturers will decide to do about their gaming consoles, but, no matter what direction they might take, it's quite clear that they'll have to seriously consider 3D, given the huge importance these particular solutions have grown to have nowadays.
