Following numerous rumors surrounding NVIDIA's cheapest GeForce 9-series graphics cards, the Santa Clara-based chip maker has finally decided to officially release the 9400GT. As expected, a number of the company's board partners have already announced their own versions of the card, which means that users will soon be able to purchase it from their local resellers/retailers.

As mentioned in one of our articles of yesterday, the new GeForce 9400GT has been designed to meet the requirements of entry-level users, while keeping the price tag down to a minimum. According to NVIDIA, the new card will retail for prices as low as $59, while offering features such as HD Video, NVIDIA's PhysX and CUDA technologies, and support for Microsoft's DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.1, which translates into a smooth Windows Vista experience and even certain gaming capabilities.

Ujesh Desai, general manager of GeForce desktop products noted, “GeForce 9400 GT GPUs are a great solution for consumers to optimize the performance of their PC for everyday applications, such as getting online directions through Google Earth or Microsoft 3D maps, or surfing the web for photos using an interactive plug-in like PicLens.”

According to the chip maker, the new card is already available at leading add-in-card manufacturers such as SUS, BFG, Colorful, Emtek, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, Zotac, PNY, Point of View, Unika, Unitek, and XFX. As we already mentioned in our previous article, photos of some of these new cards have already surfaced on the Internet, prior to NVIDIA's official launch.

As far as tech specs go, the card has been featured with a standard GPU clock speed of 550MH, while the 16 processor core has been clocked at 1400MHz. Reference models will provide a maximum graphics memory of 512MB clocked at 800MHz, but some retailers, such as EVGA, can offer you both 512MB and 1GB models.
