Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo has just announced that it will take pre-orders of the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray SO-03C starting August 12.

Although the phone's price has yet to be announced the carrier stated that Xperia ray is available in three stylish and attractive colors (pink, white and gold) and will hit DoCoMo shops on August 27.

Sony Ericsson Xperia ray is a sleek and elegant smartphone with a stylish aluminum body, which measures 111 x 53 x 9.4 mm and weighs 100g (battery included).

The handset is aimed at entertainment and multimedia fans, as Xperia ray SO-03C incorporates several of Sony’s advanced technologies, such as the xLOUD audio technology, which delivers unprecedented sound.

In addition, the handset boasts an 8.1-megapixel camera with Exmor R technology, as well as face-detection and autofocus features to ensure superior quality videos and images.

Equipped with a single core 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor, complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU, Xperia ray is powered by Google's Android 2.3 operating system and Timescape UI on top.

The smartphone comes with a high-resolution 3.3-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive multi-touch screen that supports 16 million colors, 480 x 854 pixels resolution, which is based on the Mobile BRAVIA Engine and Sony Ericson’s POBox Touch 4.3, a unique predictive text-input system that makes typing in either Japanese or English quicker and easier.

Software-wise the phone comes pre-loaded with Google's full suite of apps, including Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar and Google Talk.

In addition, Xperia ray features TrackID music recognition and SensMe apps and offers users a seamless social network experience through integration of various services, including Facebook and Twitter.

According to the manufacturer, the phone's 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery should provide users up to 430 hours of standby time or up to 7 hours of talk time.
