“The Day We Fight Back” took place on Tuesday, and thousands of sites participated. What’s more, the campaign seems to have had some success.

According to TechCrunch, a few hours ago, there were more than 70,000 phone calls placed to Congressional representatives in the United States.

Even more, some 140,000 emails were sent as part of the same effort, which makes Tuesday’s move that much more important, thanks to its impressive reach.

The campaign seeks to get people to demand the US government to put a stop to the mass surveillance program and to push for the passage of the USA Freedom Act, which would cut off a lot of NSA’s surveillance activities.

Thousands of sites signed on for the event, choosing to display a banner urging their visitors to take a stand against the constant surveillance of the Internet and its users.
