Modern Warfare 2, as predicted, has dominated the software sales for the month of November in the United States, managing to move more copies than any other launch on the Microsoft made Xbox 360. Surprisingly, the game also managed to take the second place in the software chart with the PlayStation 3 version. The PC version of the game did not chart.

The Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 sold 4.20 million units, while the PS3 one moved 1.87 million. The NPD Group estimates that about one quarter of the software-based revenue for the month came through the videogame developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.

Third spot in the chart went to New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii, which managed to sell 1.39 million units, while Assassin's Creed 2 from Ubisoft took number four with 794,700 copies sold for the Xbox 360, followed by Left 4 Dead 2 from Valve and Electronic Arts, which sold 744,000 units on the same platform.

Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus took over the next two places, with sales of 720,200 and 697,000 units, while the PlayStation 3 version of Assassin's Creed 2 is in eighth place. Dragon Age: Origins also has a good first month on the Xbox 360, managing to sell 362,100 units, while Mario Kart Wii closes the top ten with about 315,000 copies moved.

Overall, software sales only registered a small decline over the same period in 2008, down 3.1% to an overall value of 1.45 billion dollars. The decline for hardware is crippling closer to 15%. With the biggest titles of the year now launched, it will be interesting to see how the top ten will shape up for December and especially to see whether Modern Warfare 2 will continue this impressive run or whether Regie Fils-Aime will win his bet.
