While the software sales were down, June 2010 hardware sales have increased 5 percent year-on-year from 382.8 million dollars to 401.7 million dollars this month, according the recently released NPD data. Nintendo dominates this chart, with both Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii selling very well in the last period.

Nintendo DS topped the hardware sales in June with 510,700 units sold, that is 127,000 more than in May. Still, the DS is in decline from a year-to-date standpoint, going down 33 percent. The redesign did wonders for the Xbox 360, selling 451,700 consoles last month. It landed at number two, above the Wii and its year-to-date performance has also gotten an 88 percent increase. This is the second best non-holiday month in history of Microsoft’s next-gen console, after the date when Halo 3 released.

Nintendo Wii came in at a relatively close third, moving 422,500 units in the US and also going up in terms of year-to-date sales by 17 percent. PlayStation continue to grow, as it managed to sell 304,800 copies this June and had an 85 percent increase in year-to-date performance. The PlayStation Portable is still in trouble, despite the fresh marketing campaign Sony launched during last month's Electronic Entertainment Expo, selling only 121,000 handhelds and decreasing with 26 percent in year-to-date data.

In addition to this information, the NPD Group has released the lifetime hardware sales chart for the United States. The Nintendo DS is number on in this case also, having moved a staggering 41,798,158 units in the American market since its launch. The Nintendo Wii is second with 29,540,081 in consoles sold, making Nintendo the most successful video game outfit in the US. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is on the third place, totaling 20,555,886 in devices sold. Sony gets the third and fourth places in this top, as the PlayStation Portable sold 17,436,836 handhelds and the PlayStation was bought 12,719,696 times.
