Information coming from the NPD Group reveals that the PlayStation 4 home console from Sony has managed to outsell the Xbox One from Microsoft during the month of February 2014 on the United States market.

The company is not willing to say exactly how many units the PS4 has managed to deliver to players during the period, but Sony claims that it is currently seeing better overall sales than it expected.

Microsoft says that the Xbox One has managed to move 258,000 devices to gamers in the same period and the NPD Group, quoted by VG247, says that its higher price means that the value of its total sales is higher than for the PlayStation 4.

The Xbox 360 has also managed to have a solid month and has delivered 114,000 units to players who are interested in a cheaper device rather than in next-gen consoles.

Microsoft also explains that the Xbox One is outpacing the overall sales of its predecessor by 61 percent at the same point in its lifetime.

The Nintendo-made Wii U has benefited from the launch of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and has created sales of around 100,000 units in February 2014, which is a 25 percent over the amount of platforms it sold in 2013.

Liam Callahan, an analyst working for the NPD Group, states, “The majority of hardware platforms experienced double-to-triple digit increases compared to January 2014.”

For the hardware sector, the overall value of generated sales was up to 347 million dollars (248 million Euro) for February, an increase of 42 percent over the same period of 2013 and of 44% over January of this year.

At the moment, the PlayStation 4 is the best-selling next-gen console on the market, with more than 6 million units delivered to players all over the world since it was launched, in November last year.

Microsoft is optimistic about the prospects of its own device and believes that it will see a major boost for the month of March, following the delivery of a new firmware update with integrated Twitch support and the launch of the much-awaited Titanfall, the shooter from Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts.

Even Nintendo has cause for hope for its own Wii U as its increase in sales might be a sign that it can stage a bigger rebound on Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros. will be launched later during the year.
