Police have discovered the body of a man opening fire at a shopping mall in New Jersey yesterday.

The remains of 20-year-old Richard Shoop were recovered behind Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall at about 3:20 a.m. He committed suicide using the gun he brought to the shopping center.

Shoop shot at least six bullets into the ceiling and did not injure anyone, before walking away from the mall and prompting a manhunt.

He entered the Westfield mall before closing time yesterday and left soon after. After police were called in, a perimeter was secured and 400 people were trapped in the mall during a lockdown.

Police are yet to find a motive for the shooting, but believe that the gunman might have been under the influence of drugs.

Shoop had a history of drug abuse and he was known to use MDMA in the form of "Molly," ABC News reported.
