EA Sports has released the first free content update for NHL 15, meant to bring some of the missing content to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions of the game, as previously promised.

The acclaimed game maker received a lot of flak over the current-gen edition of NHL 15, which is missing many of the features available in the last-gen variants. EA Sports promised to make up for the premature launch and make things right by its fans, and it's starting to deliver.

The first such update is now available for download all across the world, on the PlayStation 4 home console from Sony and the Xbox One computer entertainment system from Microsoft.

What's in the update

The free update adds some of the missing content to the current-gen versions of NHL 15, starting with Playoff Mode, enabling users to enter a bracket tournament with up to 16 teams from NHL, or various other teams from up to 12 different leagues, with the option to either play or simulate each of the game, as well as track player and team stats throughout the tourney.

The Coach Feedback feature will enable you to get useful information regarding your performance after each shift, with the coach offering you various pointers to improve your game and commenting on your strong and weak points, and grading your positioning, teamplay and overall stats.

The 3 Stars feature will pop in at the end of every game, showing you the three most impressive performances and their statistics.

Finally, Hockey Ultimate Team is coming with updated layouts, as well as improved navigation menus and new animations for player items and improved edit lines screen, properly and easily identifying players who require contract extensions or who are injured.

Past and future

All the features added in the update are already available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 home consoles, and developer EA Sports has also revealed some of its future update plans.

The team intends to issue more free content updates for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions of NHL 15, including various new game modes such as Online Team Play and a new GM Rookie Draft for the Be a GM game mode.

The features will come in an update set to drop in October, enabling the multiplayer mode that allows each player on the ice to be controlled by a human player, and for the first time in the series, they will offer users the possibility of experiencing the pressure of draft picking.

NHL 15 came out earlier this month, and it's currently available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, worldwide.
