EA isn't done taking on popular racing simulator franchises like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport, and has just revealed that the upcoming Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed will absolutely beat a "sterile" title like Gran Turismo 5.

NFS Shift 2 was revealed with the recent launch of NFS: Hot Pursuit, and promises to continue in the simulator path set by the first Shift game, which appeared last year.

Gran Turismo 5, on the other hand, was finally released by Sony, after multiple delays, at the beginning of the week, and is looking set to become one of the most popular racing titles of all time.

According to EA senior vice president, Patrick Soderlund, GT5 won't really appeal to players, as it has a "sterile" feel, as opposed to Shift 2, which will deliver a more interactive experience.

"Honestly, my take on this. Would I want to compete with Gran Turismo on sheer scale - meaning number of cars and the depth that they have in the game? Probably not. "

"What does make sense to me... I think they have a very sterile, almost car collecting type of product where that's mainly what we do and I think we can offer something different," he continued.

"Our idea is that if we can offer the most authentic driving experience and portray what it feels like being inside a race car, then I think that's where we can excel and where we absolutely will beat them. That I know for sure."

This isn't the first time EA mocked other racing simulators, as last week the producer of NFS Shift 2 criticized both the Gran Turismo and the Forza Motorsport franchises, saying that the upcoming game will deliver a better experience, even if it won't have a great 60 fps framerate or lots of cars.

Need For Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed is set to be released in spring of 2011, and we've already seen the teaser video and a few screenshots with the new title, which will be developed by Slightly Mad studios.
