NEC Electronics America Inc. today announced it will show how its latest Wireless USB and digital AV solutions are working during Microsoft's event Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC), May 23 to 25, which is held at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle.

The future demonstrations will include a variety of advanced interface and digital AV products such as MPEG2 encoder solutions for the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition, its Wireless USB host controller and device wire adapter (DWA).

The company offers a new host controller - uPD720170 - based on Certified Wireless USB technology that enables high-speed wireless transmission of data between PCs and peripherals such as external storage equipment, digital cameras and printers.

A NEC official announced that the company is now working with several partners to develop a prototype high-speed Wireless USB product with ultra-wideband as the physical layer. No more details regarding this research were revealed.

The manufacturer was one of the first to release on the retail market a DVD recorder codec integrating 3DYC with IEEE 1394 link layer controller, in 2003, plus a MPEG2 encoder IC with an analog video-capture function and a one-chip video decoder in 2004.

In addition, NEC Electronics is considered to be a leading USB supplier, as it has already shipped more than 80 million USB 2.0 products.
