NEC's digital cinema projector portfolio has gained a new addition, one that, after undergoing a test, was granted full Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) Compliance.

NEC is versed in many professional products, like displays for digital signing or other commercial applications.

Another sort of device it knows how to make is digital projectors, like the PH1000U, unveiled earlier this month.

Now, a new such projector has appeared, carrying the name of NC3240S and capable of displaying in sizes of up to 105-feet wide. In other words, it supports the largest cinema screen sizes.

The 4K resolution (4096 x 2160 pixels) is a welcome feature for such projections, as is the 31,000 lumen brightness and support for 3D.

What people may not immediately expect, however, is the fact that, after a test by the Research Institute for Digital Media and Content at Keio University in Japan, the projector was granted Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) certification as well.

This means that it is compatible with 2K legacy third party servers, so exhibitors can capitalize on both current and future growth opportunities.

“Introducing DCI compliance to this 4K model is a significant achievement,” said Pierre Richer, president and COO of NEC Display Solutions.

“The full line of NEC digital cinema projectors, including the NC1200C, NC2000C and NC3200S models, offers this certification, which is mandatory for exhibitors utilizing digital technology. Compatibility with the demanding industry requirements is something on which NEC prides itself. Our ability to provide customers with exactly what is needed for current installations is crucial to our success.”

For those that want the exact words, the NEC NC3240S, and other projectors, was certified in Digital Cinema System Specification (DCSS) Version 1.2 (as of March 7, 2008) and DCSS CTP Version 1.1 (as of May 8, 2009). As for the product page of the item, it is here.
