NEC's MultiSync series of monitors just got a new member, one that is supposed to be superior to previous-generation models in size, weight and energy efficiency.

The new display that NEC announced is a MultiSync EA-series member with a diagonal of 24 inches. Its full name is MultiSync EA243WM.

It utilizes a 16:10 TN panel and touch-sensitive image controls (integrated into the bezel), plus LED backlighting.

As some may guess, the LED is what allows EA243WM to be thinner, lighter and less power-hungry than most predecessors.

That said, the native resolution of the monitor is 1,920 x 1,200, the brightness is of 250 cd/m2 and the dynamic contrast ratio of 1000:1.

Other specifications buyers could find intriguing are the display options (HDMI, DVI-D, VGA and DisplayPort), the integrated 4-port USB 2.0 hub and the two integrated speakers.

Furthermore, NEC tossed in the CotnrolSync capability, which can synchronize adjustment of multi-screen setups with up to six displays.

“The next generation MultiSync EA Series is an answer for our corporate clients that asked for HDMI connectivity, user-friendly control and increased height adjustment,” said Lynn Gu, Product Manager at NEC Display Solutions.

“Our EA243WM is a solution to these requests with performance-driven design and a full feature set. From smart sensing technology to top environmental certifications that promote social responsibility, this monitor will greatly enhance the computing experience.”

The NEC MultiSync EA243WM is EPEAT Gold rated, ENERGY STAR 5.1 and TCO 5.2 compliant and capable of operating in ECO mode.

Finally, it boasts a carbon footprint meter, a cost meter and the ability to recover to preferred color settings if one's attempt to customize the display goes awry.

Sales should start this month (January, 2012) for the price of $399 (306.59 Euro). The company offers a 3-year limited parts and labor warranty plan.
