It is supposed to be used for credit cards, transport payment, those sorts of things

With advancements in energy efficiency, batteries are getting better and better, and so are technologies supposed to replace them.

Granted, NEC's organic radical battery (ORB) technology can't be seen as a replacement exactly, since it's still supposed to make batteries.

The type of batteries, though, that's the important part.

Basically, OBR are thin, flexible batteries like sheets of paper or plastic.

They are meant to be integrated into IC (integrated circuit) cards and easy to print directly onto them.

What's more, the 0.05mm polymer film surrounding the “battery” can incorporate circuit boards with small components, like antennas.

NEC expects OBR to be used in credit cards, public transportation payment methods and other things like that. The battery capacity is of 2 mAh, which can update a “display scree” (whatever that means in terms of size and everything else) up to 2,000 times.
