NTT DoCoMo has announced the NEC N902iS phone which features a search engine based on photographs taken with the phone's camera.
The NEC N902iS comes with a 4 megapixel camera with autofocus and a secondary CMOS camera .
The preinstalled software extracts the important details of the photo and delivers them to a search engine called Evolution Robotics for analysis. The user gets back a confirmation if the picture was found in the database. The search engine can use a portion of the object, so it is not necessary to submit the image of the whole object.
Developed by Bandai Networks and D2 Communications, the handset measures 104 x 51 x 23 mm and weighs 114 grams. It includes two displays: an external 2.5 inch TFT LCD display capable of showing a resolution of 240 x 345 pixels in 262k colors and a 1.0 inch internal one which supports 120 x 90 pixel resolution in 65k colors.
The battery lasts 540 hours in stand-by mode and supports 160 minutes of continuous talk time or 120 minutes of video calling time.
