Seeing how its MultiSync 90 series was critically acclaimed, NEC Display Solutions of America decided to refresh its product lineup by introducing a new line of monitors, the MultiSync PA series. Currently only made up of one model, namely the PA241W, the line aims to play the part of a professional graphics solution with accurate and crisp images as well as improved color coverage and enhanced connectivity.

The PA241W is a 24-inch desktop LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The display employs the 16:9 aspect ratio and a 10-bit IPS LCD panel with 14-bit lookup table, which increases color depth to more than one billion possible colors. The device has a contrast ratio of 1000:1, a 102% coverage of NTSC, 99.3% coverage of Adobe RGB (compared with the 72% in the MultiSync LCD2490WUXi) and a brightness of 360 cd/m². As such, the PA241W is well suited to any application such as digital photography, video editing, print production and any other scenario that relies strongly on color accuracy.

"NEC's MultiSync PA Series is a flagship desktop monitor family that carries market leadership in the color, medical and professional industries," Art Marshall, product manager at NEC Display Solutions, said. "The MultiSync PA241W, the first model in this series, focuses on both workflow productivity and color accuracy, with the aim to improve upon the success of the MultiSync 90 Series. Users that require a reliable display for color precision will want to take advantage of the sophisticated technologies used in the MultiSync PA Series, starting with the PA241W."

In addition, the product offers an enhanced connectivity through a 10-bit Display port and a DVI-D with an HDCP and USB hub, which “add to an already diverse set of input connectors.” The monitor even offers more desktop space through its 38% smaller footprint size and has an ergonomic stand with tilt, swivel, height-adjust and pivot. Other convenient features include an improved cable management and a host of color-management tools.

For instance, Color Vision Emulation allows a quick preview of colors that emulate color-vision problems, and the ICC profile emulation loads ICC color profiles to accurately support manufacturer color spaces. Furthermore, the display even has an ambient light sensor, for automatic backlight adjustment, as well as a carbon-footprint meter.

With an estimated price of $1,079, the MultiSync PA241W is already available and comes with a four-year parts and labor warranty (including the backlight). Future models in the new line will include monitors featuring the award-winning SpectraViewII Color Calibration Solution.
