NEC released what can be considered the greenest LCD display developed by the company so far. It is called the MultiSync EA222WMe and is a 22-inch LED-backlit Liquid Crystal Display monitor able to provide panel brightness equal to other panel types while consuming 20% less power. In addition, it weighs 25 percent less than equivalent monitors and comes with 15% less packaging (utilizes recycled plastics, bio plastic bag and paper filler).

“The combination of these green technologies in the MultiSync EA222WMe points to the future of where the LCD industry is headed,” said Lynn Gu, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions. “LED backlight structure has improved tremendously along with cost reduction, and the adoption of the LED backlight technology will continue to accelerate over the next few years.”

The monitor radiates up to 61 percent less heat and all of its cables are built with zero mercury, halogen and arsenic. In addition, the display has a resettable carbon footprint meter, a unique tool that enables users to track their greenhouse gas emissions. As additional features, the monitor is compliant with the specifications lain down by ENERGY STAR 5.0, TCO 5.0 and EPEAT Gold. Users can even measure their electricity cost saving through a built-in resettable cost meter, an On-Screen display, which tracks all power savings.

Even with all the green features, the display is still quite capable in itself. It has a widescreen 16:10 display with W-LED backlight and a resolution of 1680 x 1050. Dynamic contrast ratio is 30,000 and brightness equals 250cd/M². Connectivity options include VGA, DVI, USB and DisplayPort inputs and, as an extra feature, the monitor has built-in down-firing multimedia speakers.

The display has an ergonomic stand, with 110mm height-adjust and can be tilted and swiveled, adding comfort and flexibility in any setup. Also, it features pivot functionality and may operate in ECO mode.

The MultiSync EA222WMe LCD display will become available this month at an estimated price tag of $339. The monitor will feature a three-year parts and labor limited warranty.
