NEC has introduced a new member of the P Series of large-screen, professional-grade displays, intended for applications where high endurance and long lifespan are required, such as public venues.

The new panel that the company is almost ready to start shipping has the name of P552 and, as one would expect, possesses the Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels).

As a professional-grade product, it is designed with thermal and mechanical protection that grant it a longer lifespan and the ability to run constantly, 24/7, without issue.

That is just one of its assets, though, and it takes more to truly turn something into a display suitable for healthcare facilities, retail stores, airports, public information spots and quick-service restaurants.

The contrast ratio of 4,000:1 is joined by a brightness of up to 700 cd/m2 and a 10% lower power consumption than preceding displays.

NEC also tossed in a pair of 10W speakers and external control support via RS-232C, RJ45 LAN, IR Remote and DDC/CI interfaces.

Furthermore, clients will find a carbon footprint meter, an NTSC/ATSC analog/digital tuner (HD broadcast) and the option to buy four panels at once (2x2 TileMatrix Video Wall).

“NEC Display Solutions always keeps total cost of ownership in mind when designing new products,” said Keith Yanke, director of product marketing, large-screen displays and projectors for NEC Display Solutions.

“We were able to create a more efficient display while adding to the already rich feature set that customers expect from the P Series product.”

NEC gave its new invention a DVI connector, DisplayPort and composite video input, for enhanced loop-through capability.

Finally, an expansion slot is present, with OPS support, as is the possibility to set up video walls with up to 100 panels.

Unfortunately, those interested in getting one or more of these things will feel the effects on their finances. With sales starting this month (February, 2012), the minimum price is $3,199 (2,473.33 Euro), while a P552-AVT will sell for $3,399 (2,589.71 Euro) and a 2x2 TileMatrix Video Wall option (P552-TMX4D) will require $17,999 (13,713.52 Euro).
