There’s also a second model which is a little bit heftier

Japanese device maker NEC has launched a new line of laptops, which will certainly take your breath away. Sadly, we do not know at the moment, whether these products will be available outside the borders of Japan, as well.

As Notebook Italia notes, the new laptop goes by the name of LaVie GZ, a 13-inch model heir to the 2012 LaVie Z and comes boasting a full-flat design with silver of black coloring options.

The new LaVie GZ will be available in two models, both 13.3-inchers but naturally will arrive with different hardware specs.

Most notably, one of the models comes with an IPS display that takes advantage of IGZO technology. Thanks to this aspect, NEC has managed to shrink down the weight and thickness of the panel making the device incredibly sleek, weighing a meager 795 g / 1.75 lbs. This is comparable with a lot of laptop/tablet hybrids out there, a fact that makes the LaVie GZ all the more incredible.

In the resolution department the screen is also pretty impressive, boasting 2560 x 1550 pixels. Under the hood NEC has added a powerful Intel Core i7-4510U fitted with 4GB of RAM and backed up by a solid 256GB of internal storage.

The spec lists is completed by the presence of Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, DVD burner, USB 3.0, HMDI output, audio jacks for headphones and microphone combo and SD card reader.

Don’t expect such a device to come cheap, as you’ll have some saving up to do if you want to purchase the IGZO LaVie. In Japan, NEC will be selling the device for about $1,408 / €1,036.

The second version won’t bring the same amazing specifications as the IGZO one but it’s pretty powerful as well, albeit being more standard.

For starters, the IPS panel isn’t taking advantage of IGZO technology anyway, but still offers full HD resolution (1920 x 1200) which is not what most laptops out there can say.

The lappy is fitted with an Intel Core i5-4210U processor with 4GB of RAM and 12GB SSD and the rest of the spec list remains the same. However, this model is a little bit heftier, weighing 964 g / 2.12 lbs. It will go on sale for around $1,500 / €1,103.

The IGZO model comes with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit out of the box and Microsoft Office suite Home & Business 2013 pre-installed, while the full HD model takes advantage of Windows 8.1 and Office Personal 2013.
