Recently, Japan's NEC has been creating quite a buzz in the world of computer systems, as it is said to have launched a new series of desktop computer systems, the PowerMate P series all-in-one desktop PCs. Part of the series, NEC has just announced two new systems, the P4000 and the P6000, which have been designed to provide users with an alternative to all the other all-in-one desktop systems available, including Apple's successful iMac.

"With our vast experience in the PC market, we foresee an increase in demand and needs of individuals who are trend conscious, requiring powerful computing capabilities. We take the lead to develop such a product for consumers who want to be different, fulfilling both their design expectations with innovative integrated features like one cable operation and space saving concept in mind", said Executive Marketing Director of NEC Computers Asia Pacific, Mr. Makoto Iwasaki.

Each of the two systems has been designed to provide a different configuration, so that different users can find whatever features they require from a PC. The P4000 series, for instance, has been built as a 16-inch WXGA LCD that comes with NEC's Smart Super Shine View EX technology. It boasts an AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-60 processor, running at 1.9GHz, 1GB of DDR2 800MHz RAM, 250GB 5400RPM hard drive, integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9100M G graphics, built-in wireless LAN and Gigabit LAN, 13-in-1 card reader and SuperMulti DVD optical drive. Additional features include the RF Wireless keyboard with MCE remote and optical mouse, preloaded DVD Video Maker software and a built-in SRS Premium Sound technology.

The PowerMate P6000, on the other hand, has been featured with a 19-inch LCD, Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 processor, 2GB of DDR2 800MHz memory, 500GB of storage space on a 7200RPM hard drive and the NVIDIA GeForce 9300 graphics card, with 895MB of shared video memory. In addition, the P6000 also comes with an integrated media card reader, SuperMulti DVD optical drive, Gigabit LAN, 802.11 b/g/n wireless network, RF wireless keyboard with MCE remote and a wireless optical mouse.

Price-wise, the PowerMate P4000 is set at $1,265, while the PowerMate P6000 comes with a price tag of $1,664. Both systems are expected to start shipping in Asia next week.
