Not often does a monitor get released that, while featuring the fairly common widescreen form factor, has a native resolution different from Full HD.

NEC is getting ready for the start of a new year just like everyone else, but the product now in sight is one that won't be at the 2012 edition of CES (Consumer Electronics Show).

Instead, it will be released soon after the show, on January 18, in Japan at least.

The price will be of 45,000 yen, which is the rough equivalent of $576 and 441 Euro.

The product in question bears one of two names, depending on which of the two colors it sports.

The LCD-EA243WM has a white bezel, while the LCD-EA243WM-BK is the black one.

From just a passing glance, it isn't easy to divine what is unusual about this item, assuming there was anything at all unusual in the first place.

It so happens that yes, there is something less than ordinary, namely the resolution.

Since this is a widescreen display, people would probably be inclined to assume that the Full HD quality is supported (1,920 x 1,080 pixels).

This isn't exactly untrue, but the native resolution is not 1080p but 1,920 x 1,200, or WUXGA as it is otherwise known.

Furthermore, the NEC 24-inch display has four connectors, which is more than monitors generally bother integrating.

The exact inputs are D-Sub, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort, making it compatible with mostly every graphics card, laptop and (probably) even Mac system out there.

The spec sheet mentions a typical brightness of 250 cd/m2, as well as a dynamic contrast ratio of 25,000:1, plus a four-port USB 3.0 hub and a couple of 1W built-in speakers.

Finally, NEC tossed in an ambient light sensor and a stand with 130mm height adjustment (and 90-degree panel rotation).
