One of the big fresh features that EA Sports pushed before the release of NCAA Football 2010 has been the new Season Showdown mode, in which players can score points for the teams supported in real life. Now, the pre-season is over for the mode, and Electronic Arts has lauched a top of the teams that got the most points.

The Season Showdown season will be outed with Ohio State as having the most credits, over 100 million, followed by a string of other popular teams: Florida; Texas; Michigan; Miami; Florida State; USC; LSU; Alabama and Notre Dame.

In the regular season, Electronic Arts is saying that there are five ways through which a determined fan can help their team score points. They can, of course, play the game using that team against the Artificial Intelligence on their gaming console, which is what they would usually do in NCAA Football 2010. But they can also set up an online match in which their team is involved. EA even picks a game of the week, involving two of the top teams, reflecting reality.

Those who are not near their gaming console can still make a contribution via two Facebook-based games. One of them is an NCAA Trivia Challenge based on college football question and answers but there is also the Allies & Rivals game, which allows any player to distribute five points towards teams they like, with each getting one, in order to determine who wins during each week.

Traditionally, NCAA Football has been less popular than the more mainstream Madden NFL but it seems that EA Sports is playing up the social aspect and the traditional rivalry between the schools in order to increase the attractiveness and the longevity of college level game. All those who are interested in taking part in Season Showdown can create an account with EA Sports.
