NBA cares

Everybody's hyped about the upcoming All-Star weekend that will bring the world's best and most famous basketball players together, for a demonstration of their skills. TNT will be covering the event, but YouTube has chosen this occasion to highlight the other side of players, beyond the cross-overs, alley-ups, blocks, dunks and bling they wear.

NBA players Al Horford and All-Star David West will give a hand to students from the Laurel School in Orleans Parish, New Orleans, in rehabilitating their outdoor courts and reopening their gymnasium, damaged by Hurricane Katrina two years ago. Seizing on the opportunity of the All-Star Weekend taking place in NO, YouTube will host the videos shot there on their NBA Channel and the NBA Cares Channel.

The aspiring sports journalists from Laurel will be granted today special press access to the Rookie vs. Sophomore Game, and the content they will be filming will also be uploaded on YouTube, so if the time-outs bug you at some point, or if you feel that halftime is way too long to deal with the beer, be sure to look them up.

The showcase midseason event includes the Dunk Contest, Skill Competition, Rookie Challenge Game and, of course, Sunday's All-Star Game. If you're half as excited about these as I am, you're sure to be absorbing all the possible information about anything and all of the aspects of the game, don't forget about those who have suffered so much from the nature's wrath and help in any way that you can. If stars took the time and made an effort, so can you.

Last year's All Star Game took place in Las Vegas, and it saw the West winning the battle with the East by 21 points, 153 - 132. Kobe Bryant was named MVP because of his 31 points, six assists and six steals in the game, playing mostly as Point Guard, not his usual position in a team.
