EA Sports has announced a complex effort aimed at making last year's basketball game release, NBA Live 10, relevant for the current season, with a significant update set to arrive on October 20 to make the game feel in same ways like the missing NBA Elite 11.

The EA Sports Community site says that the update will change all the team rosters to reflect the modifications made for the 2010 – 2011 NBA regular season.

The rookie class for the year has also been included in the game and all player ratings have been verified and tweaked to reflect the reality of the current on the court performances.

EA Sports also promises more DNA Updates as the NBA regular season progresses, with the first one set to arrive two or three weeks after the start of the season.

The developers are saying that they have no plans to update uniforms or other visual elements of the game and that the gameplay will also remain unchanged.

EA Sports is clearly aiming to offer some significant updates for those who own NBA Live 10 and are not interested in picking up the recently gone multiformat and disk based NBA Jam, which offers a more arcade minded game and some fantasy match ups.

It's not clear whether the effort will make the community happy, especially considering that they can always switch to NBA 2K11 which has been receiving good reviews for its gameplay mechanics and for the way it portrays Michael Jordan.

The NBA franchise received a change of name earlier in the year, with Elite chosen to better represent the game's focus on high level players and their exploits.

Earlier in the month EA Sports has announced that NBA Elite 11 has been delayed from its official launch date because feedback from the player base showed that the game was not polished enough to be launched.

The company says that NBA Elite 11 will come out next year.
