NBA Jam, the high definition remake of the extremely popular arcade basketball game, will be released on retail discs for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, according to EA, the game's publisher.

Up until now, NBA Jam for the next generation consoles was shrouded in mystery, as it was just recently released for the Nintendo Wii, as a full game.

Until a few weeks ago, NBA Jam was set to be released as a downloadable title for the next generation consoles, bundled with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of NBA Elite 11.

As you all know by now, that title was delayed until next year, so EA confirmed that it will release NBA Jam as a standalone product.

It didn't, however, reveal anything concrete on how it would be released, either still as a downloadable title or as a full pledged one.

Now, according to EA Sports' Jen Riley, the game will, in fact, be released on a disc for the two consoles, just like the Nintendo Wii version.

This is backed up by the fact that several retailers are already showing retail covers for NBA Jam, as well as a November release date.

Riley says that, at the moment, EA Sports can't confirm a concrete release date, so we'll just have to wait for an official announcement later this month.

According to previous statements, EA Vancouver, the developer of the remastered NBA Jam, is working as hard as it can in order to incorporate the new elements from the Wii version in the PS3 and Xbox 360 ones.

For those not in the know, the NBA Jam on the Wii featured a Remix Tour, but didn't have online multiplayer, a feature confirmed for the PS3 and 360 ones.

If the new mode will be incorporated in it, expect EA to charge a full price for the remastered NBA Jam on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
