Take Two confirms move

Take Two has been quite busy these days as, just before the E3 trade show, the publisher revealing its results for the last quarter and talking about the videogames that it plans to release in the coming months. One of the most interesting announcements was the fact that NBA 2K10 would be coming to the Nintendo Wii home gaming console when it is released later in the year.

Take Two did not explicitly state what other platforms the game would be released for but given the fact that NBA 2K9 was launched for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 2 and the PC, it means that the same hardware devices will also be targeted this year.

Ben Feder, who is the president of Take Two, has told investors that “All of our sports products need to be multiplatform. As we said over and over again on these calls, Nintendo was a terrific and important partner for Take-Two, and we expect that to continue over time, and especially in our sports business.”

The 2K sports series from T2 has been competing with titles published by Electronic Arts, often with disappointing results. The NBA 2K franchise is among the most successful ones in the portfolio, so it makes sense for the company to make sure that as many gamers as possible can get it, which means releasing it for the Nintendo Wii. EA Sports is also planning to launch most of its sports games on the Wii this year.

Feder has added that the MLB baseball franchise, for which Take Two has exclusive rights, has changed development studios and that it is now being created by Visual Concepts, the studio that is also working on NBA 2K10. The move was prompted by the fact that the baseball game released last year got very bad reviews.
