They have since changed their mind, having four new women on board this year alone

A rejection letter sent by NASA in 1962 shows blatant discrimination in their process of hiring astronauts.

LiveLeak writes that the letter posted above was sent to the University of Connecticut to a person addressed only as “Miss Kelly.”

The letter, signed by NASA public information director O.B. Lloyd Jr., tells “Miss Kelly” that they are not hiring women and that they most likely never will.

“This is to advise that we have no existing program concerning women astronauts nor do we contemplate any such plan,” the letter reads.

NASA spokesperson Bob Jacobs cannot confirm its authenticity, but mentions that the time frame is correct.

However, this year NASA has hired eight new astronauts and four of them are women.
