If you are looking for a distribution that can simplify the installation of MythTV on a home theatre PC, then MythDora is for you. It is a Linux distribution based on Fedora 8 along with MythTV-0.21. The latest version, 5.0, is only a few days old and the developers consider it as the most feature rich, cleanest and stable release they've worked on until now.

In case you used MythDora before, the installation is mostly the same as for the previous version, so you will not find any surprises. The preferred way of installing is Custom, just as before, and Auto. Auto is best suited for newbies, because it is the easiest way of setting up MythDora. Also, this type of installation will erase everything on your first hard drive, giving only the default settings and no network, so you will have to setup the networking before you get to mythtvsetup if you want your listings. The Anaconda installer was modified to make a custom install very easy. You can select through the menu what packages or drivers to install.

Here are some of the new features and changes in MythDora 5.0:

■ based on Fedora 8 with the 2.6.24.4-64 Linux kernel and MythTV 0.21-185 ■ Improved remote control support ■ MythWeb password protect at install ■ PVR-350 TV-out GUI installer ■ Automatic lircrc file generator script ■ MythTV Add/Remove module GUI menu ■ MythTV Setup access from MythDora Tools ■ IMDB Bulk updater script ■ IR Blaster / STB GUI installers ■ Both DVD and CD install disks, as well as a network-installable tree and yum repositories ■ A very nice database backup module in MythDora Tools ■ Latest nVidia & nVidia Legacy drivers ■ Latest ATI/AMD video drivers ■ Latest OpenChrome video drivers ■ Latest ivtv drivers, including X driver for the PVR-350 ■ Latest video4linux(DVB) drivers ■ K9copy (DVD shrink for Linux) ■ Nuvexport
