The mysterious respiratory illness responsible for the death of two people in Alabama has been debunked by specialists, who say that it is no more and no less than a mix of the common cold and flu.

What they mean is that people no longer have anything to worry about, seeing how these conditions can be easily treated.

“The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPD) and the Houston County Health Department have determined that the cause of a respiratory illness cluster in southeast Alabama was a combination of influenza A, rhinovirus, the virus associated with the common cold, and bacterial pneumonia,” reads the official press release on this issue. The Inquisitr reports that, before this medical puzzle was solved, some feared that the state might have been hit by some deadly flu form that had high chances of spreading fairly easily and affecting numerous people.

Still, it seems that this is not the case. As State Health Officer Dr. Don Williamson points out, “This is good news. Testing has ruled out avian flu and novel coronavirus.”

The five patients placed under medical supervision after showing symptoms associated with this illness appear to be doing better, and doctors say it will not be long until they are allowed to return to their homes.
