Last week, Western Digital introduced on the market its latest product, the My Book Mirror Edition. The device is an external hard drive storage system featuring two hard disk drives compatible with both Mac and PCs and able to keep users' digital content safe through the use of a RAID 1 configuration. The starting price tag for the hard drive is set at $289.99.

The MyBook Mirror Edition comes in two models, 1TB and 2TB, respectively. The device is able to work in mirrored or striped RAID configurations, depending on users' needs and choice. The My Book Mirror Edition is an external storage solution based on USB 2.0 compatibility.

The system features two hard disk drive mechanisms inside, which are configured from the beginning in RAID level 1 (mirrored) mode. Yet, the MyBook Mirror Edition also allows users to configure the two hard disk drives in a RAID level 0 system (striped), which improves the overall performance of the device. When in mirror mode, a duplicate copy of data is found on each drive, which ensures continuous work flow even in the situation of having one of the drives crashed. Any faulty drive can be easily replaced if necessary, as the chassis is user-serviceable.

The amount of noise the system produces is extremely low, as it works without a fan. Also, the "GreenPower" technology from Western Digital is supported by the drive mechanism. The company stated that this technology allows MyBook Mirror Edition to use 33% less power than a standard external system also featuring two hard disk drives. The Western Digital external device comes with backup software included.

The prices for the devices depend on the featured capacity. This way, the My Book Mirror Edition in 1TB is offered by WD for $289.99, while the 2TB model will cost $549.99.
