Even if they promised that “Love Can Keep Us Together,” the ‘70s singing duo of Captain & Tennille is splitting up. RumorFix

reports that the two musicians are getting a divorce after Toni Tennille filed the papers at the Arizona City courthouse.

Toni Tennille, real name Cathryn Antoinette Tennille, was the one who initiated the divorce, even if things between the two seemed to be as happy as ever. Even if at first it was regarded as a rumor, confirmation came later in the form of a statement on their official website.

The statement reads, “Until Thursday, January 16th, 2014, when Toni Tennile met with a DIVORCE ATTORNEY, in Phoenix, AZ, everything relating to THE CAPTAIN & TENNILLE appeared to the public as them being the ideal model for a 'rock-solid' married pair. But almost all people naturally evolve over time, & sometimes hidden feelings start to be uncovered when one may read, just a little more into (the popularized, substitute heading appearing just below), stating, for instance: ‘MUSIC HAS KEPT THEM TOGETHER.’”

On the other hand, Daryl Dragon, aka Captain, seemed to be unaware of any of the developments when he was contacted by the press, “I don't know why she filed. I gotta figure it out for myself first,” he said.

Dragon, 71, was the keyboard player for the Beach Boys before meeting his wife and forming a duo with her. They met in the early 1970s and were married by 1974. Among their most known hits are “Love Will Keep Us Together” and “Muskrat Love.”

Back in 2010, Tennille revealed on her blog that Dragon was suffering from a neurological condition that gave him tremors that, at times, left him unable to play the keyboard. The reason for the divorce is not known yet and has not been revealed to the press at this time.
