A while ago, Mozilla announced a series of changes to the release system of its Firefox for Mobile browser, so as to bring it in line with the desktop version of the browser, and a new flavor of the application was made available for download as part of that change.

Today, owners of a device running under Google's Android operating system can download a release candidate of Firefox 5.0 on their devices, Mozilla announced via a post on their developer center.

“As part of Mozilla’s new rapid release development process the beta development channel has been updated with a Firefox release candidate,” the company announced.

The new version of the browser comes after a long list of beta releases, and should be followed by a final flavor as soon as next week, it seems.

The application was made available for download via the Android Market, though users will find it there, still branded as a beta release, and not RC.

We already had a look at the enhancements that the beta version of Firefox 5.0 brings on Android, but, in case there are some who might have missed them, here's what the release notes include: - Improved page load speed, especially on 3G networks - Improved panning responsiveness - Added support for the Do-Not-Track header - Improved compatibility with SwiftKey keyboard - Images downloaded to the Android Gallery are now immediately visible - Improved color conversion enabling better display of images and video - Dialog prompts better match default Android styling - Added support for over six menu items in the Android Menu - Resolved an error encountered when trying to load web pages without an active Internet connection.

At the same time, Mozilla announced fixes for localization issues with truncated strings in French, Russian and in Italian, as well as some problems with the password fields that were not masked, and issues that caused the browser to crash.

The beta iteration of the browser also comes with fixes for issues related to typing in text fields and with a series of other enhancements as well.

The latest beta of Firefox for Android, which apparently became RC yesterday, is available for download from Softpedia as well, via this link.
