A software company, founded by two former National University of Singapore students has become quite a success and its product is now the main component of a 3G trial service by StarHub. Despite making waves in the industry, the company, named Mozat, has remained low-key, and currently has only 35 staff members.

Its Morange software is a major part of StarHub's recently announced PhingoActive service and brings together various applications including email clients, blogging and chatting under one platform. Moreover, it enables users to link-up their PC's hard-drive or access external shared folders, not having to store all their music or various files on the mobile phone itself while still being able to easily access it.

"I was always dreaming of starting a business, even back in Shanghai. But the problem with Shanghai is that we can't find good enough people. Singapore is ideal for start-up location because it's a hub of all the talents in the region. I cannot meet my partner, Jet, in China because it's too big. But it (the meeting) happened a few days after I arrived in Singapore," said Michael, who is now the CEO of Mozat.

Mozat currently has two offices in Guangzou and Shanghai and is planning to expand to China, India and Europe. According to the company, its mission is to mobilize the world's information and make it universally accessible from mobile devices.

William Klippgen, Director of Mozat, said: "Mobile phones are extremely powerful these days and network connections are very fast. So you have a very powerful tool in your hand but it's not being utilized. There's a huge gap in terms of making use of that power."
