Major carrier Nextel and Motorola have just announced the upcoming availability of Motorola i867 smartphone with Push To Talk for iDEN technology in Brazil.

Customers can now purchase the smartphone via Nextel’s retail channels for as low as R$ 499 (275 USD or 210 EUR) with a data plan, or for R$ 899 (495 USD or 375 EUR) outright.

Unfortunately, the smartphone is outrageously priced, especially given its totally unattractive hardware and software configuration.

The only thing that might appeal to some customers would be Motorola’s iDEN technology, allowing for high-performance communication and PTT two-way radio.

Other than that, this is just an old Android-based smartphone with little to no interesting features worth mentioning. Motorola i867 is powered by Android 2.1 Éclair and provided access to more than 450,000 apps via Google Play Store.

Aside from iDEN technology, the smartphone packs Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities, along with Bluetooth and microUSB.

The new i867 smartphone with PTT is the best of both worlds. Whether you choose the i867 for work, play, or both, the Motorola i867 lets you manage it all with best-in-class PTT and Android,” said Wagner Mendonça, iDEN sales director for Motorola Mobility Brazil.

The smartphone comes with a medium-size 3.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display, music player, a 3.5mm audio jack and a 3-megapixel rear camera.

There are no details on the phone’s processor or amount of memory, but Motorola mentions that the smartphone features microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), and that the sales package contains a free 2GB memory card.

The i867 is yet another addition to the Nextel smartphone portfolio. The new handset is a versatile tool that meets the needs of today’s demanding, connected consumer who is not prepared to sacrifice design. It combines Android smartphone technology with Nextel’s suite of push-to-talk services,” concluded Fernando Modé, marketing manager, Nextel.
