Motorola apparently had plans to release a tablet, but pulled the plug on the project

Motorola hasn't done anything new and exciting in terms of tablets, as of late, but there was a time when things were a lot different.

Once upon a time, three years ago, Motorola was the first company to release a tablet running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, which was especially optimized for tablets.

Since then the slate ecosystem has massively changed and products are pouring in everyday with diverse specifications and prices as low as $100 / €73.

Motorola also released a second-gen tablet, but customers didn't take much notice of it. As for the third-generation iteration, we never saw such a product arrive.

But Motorola can’t be accused of not giving it a shot. A bunch of leaked pictures surfaced recently showing the purported XOOM 3 tablet that never made it to the market, reports The Droid Life.

The pictures showcase a slate with a relatively slim design and a full-Kevlar backside, which is reminiscent of the DROID smartphone launched by Motorola last year.

Another detail worth highlighting is the Verizon logo spotted on the backside, which means the tablet could have been carried exclusively by big red, in the vein of a DROID or XYBOARD device. However, Motorola has reportedly abandoned the project, so don’t expect to see the XOOM 3 be made available anytime soon.
