Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility has just made available for purchase in Australia a new Tablet PC running under Google’s Android operating system, none other than the Motorola XOOM 2.

The new device is available on the airwaves of wireless carrier Telstra with a 1.2GHz dual core application processor inside and with a large 10.1-inch HD touchscreen display that sports Gorilla Glass on top.

The tablet PC can be seen available on Telstra’s website on $29, $39, $49 and $89 data plans with hardware repayments of $20 and $10. For this kind of money, users also receive a monthly data allowance that ranges from 1GB to 15GB.

“Our first award-winning tablet, the Motorola Xoom, was a great achievement for Motorola,” Timo Brouwer, MD, ANZ and South Pacific, Motorola Mobility, reportedly stated.

“We’ve built on that success to create Motorola XOOM 2, an outstanding, super-powerful device that meets the needs of today’s always-on generation at an extremely competitive price point.

“Motorola Xoom 2 is the ultimate device for home, work and play, and comes packed with apps like MOTOPRINT and MotoCast, which you won’t find on any other Android-powered tablet.”

The specifications list of the new device includes 32GB of on-board storage, along with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and a 1.3MP front facing camera, great for making video calls.

The tablet PC is capable of recording videos in 1080P HD resolution. It arrives on shelves with a 7000mAh lithium ion battery inside, while running under Google’s Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system.

The new device also arrives on shelves with support for a variety of applications and services that Google and Motorola have designed for its Android users.

“Say goodbye to cables and you can save your storage space for your apps,” the wireless carrier notes on its website.

“With MotoCast, a free app from Motorola, you can access your home computer remotely and stream your music, films, pics and documents right to your tablet, so there’s no need to take up room on the hard disk (data charges may apply).”
