An entry level device

Mobile phone maker Motorola and wireless carrier Verizon are reportedly preparing the release of a new handset running under Google's Android operating system, one that just emerged into the wild, and which sports the codename of Motorola WX445. The name under which it would arrive on Verizon's airwaves is unknown at the moment, though it is known that it should arrive with Android 2.1 on board.

All in all, we shouldn't expect for the new Motorola Android-based mobile phone for Verizon to be in line with the DROID handsets the carrier already offers to its users. According to a recent article on Engadget we should actually expect for the new handset to prove a decent alternative to the Motorola Devour.

The specifications list of the Motorola WX445 reportedly includes a touchscreen display that would be of between 2.5 and 3.0 inches in size, complemented by a photo snapper that does not include flash (the resolution of the camera is not known either). The upcoming Android device should pack a 1170mAh battery inside, rumor has it.

It seems that Motorola has thrown in a MOTOBLUR-like skin on top of that Android 2.1 operating system, but the actual software solution won't be present on the device. In other words, the platform would look like the software on DROID X, without making use of Motorola's services. For what it's worth, the Motorola WX445 for Verizon is expected to land on shelves as a lower-end device that would resemble the Palm Pre, though the QWERTY keyboard won't be included into the equation.

The photos Engadget published with the new Motorola Android device show that it would indeed resemble the webOS-based handset. Since Motorola and Verizon already covered the higher end of the market with the DROID and DROID X handsets, it makes perfect sense that they would make Android phones available for a wider range of people. However, no specific details on the device's availability or pricing emerged.
