Because the device itself is too self-assured to not be fashionably late

You'd think that Motorola would have released its Moto 360 smartwatch by now, or at least said exactly when we could expect it, but no, the company likes its mysteries.

On the flip side, the device has been one of the most advertised wearable gadgets of the year, even though its status as the only round smartwatch gives it a huge advantage there by default.

At this point, everyone in the world even remotely interested in smartwatches, or wearables in general, is anticipating the arrival of Motorola's creation. After all, the watch not only promises wireless charging, but also several different OLED faces and, of course, the full functionality of the Android Wear operating system.

Unfortunately, the company isn't ready to release the thing yet. However, the company did just release a new teaser video about it, which I have embedded below. The company explains why it chose the round design over the square one.

Long story short, the makers of mobile and (now) wearable gadgets wanted to emulate the appearance of mechanical watches.

Sales of the Moto 360 should start by the end of the summer, but that only means that Motorola can glibly hold off until the last moment if it wants, to milk the hype and consumer anticipation for all it's worth.
