14 DAY TRIAL // Motorola is one of the few handset manufacturers that has yet to unlock bootloaders of its smartphones. Although Motorola promised to do this by the end of 2011, none of the Android devices launched last year features an unlocked bootloader.
In a surprising move, Motorola has recently announced the upcoming availability of the Motorola RAZR Developer Edition, which will be launched in Europe with unlocked bootloader.
The company officially revealed the launch of the smartphone on its blog site, but Motorola’s published announcement quickly disappeared due to unknown reasons.
Fortunately, the folks over at Droid-Life were quick enough to grab a screenshot of this announcement. According to Motorola, the upcoming smartphone is aimed at people interested in unlockable/relockable bootloaders.
Even though this Motorola RAZR is specially designed for the European market, the company confirmed that in the coming months it planned to release an unlockable developer device in the United States as well.
Probably dubbed Motorola DROID RAZR Developer Edition, the smartphone will be available via MOTODEV, Motorola’s global developer network.
As for the European customers, they will be able to pre-order the Motorola RAZR Developer Edition through the Motorola Shop. The handset maker also states that the MOTODEV site will offer users all the support necessary for unlocking, relocking and locating build files after purchase.
Motorola RAZR Developer Edition has the same features and design as the original Motorola RAZR, including the impossibly thin design, powerful processor and vibrant display.
The smartphone is likely to be powered by Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, though Motorola has yet to confirm it.
The phone should be equipped with a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
For the time being, the Motorola RAZR Developer Edition is not available for purchase on the Motorola Shop.
