Mobile phone maker Motorola has just unveiled some more details on its plans for updating the handsets it pushed on the market with Google's Android operating system to newer flavors of the OS.

The info it recently unveiled include the company's plans for updating the Motorola DEFY units currently available for purchase on the market in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.

According to the company, an “upgrade to Android 2.2 planned for Q2 2011” for this mobile phone.

Motorola DEFY is the latest rugged device the company brought to the market, and has been released in the United States too, via T-Mobile.

The phone sports a large 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with flash, digital zoom and auto focus, CrystalTalk PLUS technology, DLNA capabilities, and more.

As any Android-based mobile phone, the Motorola DEFY also offers Internet connectivity options, as well as support for various services from Google, and the possibility to download and install applications from the Android Market.

The handset was released on the market with the Android 2.1 operating system on board, and now its maker promised the upcoming availability of a new OS version for it.

Of course, DEFY owners would have to wait a little before the update was made available for them, especially if something goes wrong during the preparation period, and the release is delayed.

While waiting for this OS upgrade to be released, we should take a look at another appealing Android device from Motorola, the XT720, which will remain with the Android 2.1 flavor on board, just the way it landed on shelves.

Of course, this would not be the first Motorola device which won't taste a new OS update, nor the last one, for that matter, though many might have expected for it to be upgraded to a new version, that's for sure.

For what it's worth, since Motorola is updating its Android upgrade plans pretty often, it might not be too long before more changes are announced, so keep an eye on this space for additional info on the matter.
