Mobile phone maker Motorola is gearing up for the release of a new software update for the owners of Moto X devices on the network of wireless carrier AT&T, and it has already sent out invitations to a soak test for it.

According to Android Central, the company has sent out invitations to the members of the Motorola Feedback Network to participate in the testing of the new software release for the device, though no specific info on what the update will bring along has been provided.

However, chances are that this will indeed be the aforementioned Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS upgrade for the handset, especially since Motorola has released it for Moto X users on other carriers in the United States.

“Thanks for joining the Motorola Feedback Network. We are inviting owners of the Moto X on AT&T to participate in an early preview of a new software release, and provide feedback,” Motorola said in the aforementioned invitation.

“If you are not currently using an AT&T Moto X, please excuse and ignore this email. Click this link -- [redacted] -- to take the enrollment survey if you wish to take part.”

The company also notes that only users who are members in good standing of the Motorola Owners' Forums will be included in the testing program. At the same time, users are informed that they need to respond as soon as possible, since the registration window could close without notice.

“This is a confidential test under the terms of the Motorola Feedback Network. Do not post any details or information about this on any public sites,” Motorola also said.

“Thanks -- please understand that start times are always fluid. We ask for your patience if you register but don't hear from us right away.”

For those out of the loop, we should note that Motorola launched the Moto X with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on top last year, but that it updated it to Android 4.4 KitKat OS version in late 2013, soon after the platform was officially announced.

The new software release, which might also include the Android 4.4.2 platform iteration, should provide users with the latest enhancements included in the OS, as well as with a series of improvements and tweaks coming from Motorola itself.

Hopefully, it won’t be long before the actual soak test kicks off, since the full roll out will start soon after, and more details on the update will be provided. Stay tuned for more info on this.
