Today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. announced the launch of a new Android-powered smartphone on the market in Europe, the Motorola PRO.

The new device is the European version of the already available Motorola DROID Pro, which was launched last year on Verizon Wireless' airwaves, with a series of features aimed at business users.

Motorola has brought the new device on the floor at the MWC 2011 show in Barcelona, Spain, but did not unveil specific info on the handset's availability for the time being.

“Consumers above all need choice to meet the needs of work and play and Motorola PRO strengthens Motorola Mobility's position as the leading provider of Android devices. We don't take a one-size-fits-all approach,” said Andrew Morley, vice president of marketing, international markets, Motorola Mobility.

“In addition, employees and IT departments have made it clear that they want other options and solutions and Motorola PRO meets this need.”

The Motorola PRO is powered by Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, and packs inside a 1 GHz application processor, complemented by 2 GB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32 GB of additional storage space.

The specifications list of this device includes 3G mobile hotspot, with support for up to five other Wi-Fi-enabled devices/laptops, a QWERTY keyboard to accompany the phone's touchscreen display, email support (Corporate Sync, Gmail, POP3/IMAP embedded, Push Email, Yahoo Mail), and pre-loaded QuickOffice application.

Some other features that Motorola PRO will hit European shelves with include:

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support on a full multi-touch 3.1-inch (7.87-cm) brilliant display as well as the ability to capture and share content with the device's 5-megapixel camera featuring auto focus and dual LED flash

Motorola security additions such as AuthenTec IPSec multi-headed VPN integration, remote wipe of device and SD card, and complex password support as well as device and SD card encryption

A Motorola PRO desktop dock, sold separately, will also be available for this device's users (it offers a charging station and enables access to additional handset features while docked).
