Good news for Motorola fans in the UK, as the handset maker has just announced that it has started the rollout of the highly anticipated Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Moto G.

The smartphone was introduced in the UK last year, but the Moto G was confirmed to ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean platform onboard. However, Motorola promised that it would quickly remedy that and offer a KitKat upgrade soon after Moto G's launch.

Well, it looks like that moment has just arrived, as the US-based handset maker has confirmed on its support website that Android 4.4.2 KitKat is now available for Moto G in the UK.

Aside from bringing the phone's software to version Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the following new features and improvements have been added as well:

- Restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, colour emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, smarter power use;

- Improved the phone app with the ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad;

- Added new photo editing options to the Gallery app including new filter effects, draw on your photos, advanced cropping and adjustments to colour, exposure, contrast and more;

- Added support for printing photos, Google Docs, Gmail messages and other content via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and hosted services such as Google Cloud Print and HP ePrinters;

- Incorporated a new version of Google Hangouts that supports integrated SMS/MMS messaging;

- Hangouts can be set as the default SMS app under Settings / Wireless / Default SMS app;

- Added support for Square credit card reader.

On a side note, Motorola announced last year that the Moto G would arrive in the United States and India with Android 4.4 KitKat onboard, but it doesn't seem this way at all.

Verizon and Boost Mobile have already confirmed that they will offer the Moto G with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, beginning this week.

However, we expect Motorola to provide an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade for these carriers soon after the Moto G's launch on the market.
