Rumors on the upcoming release of Motorola Moto G at Verizon Wireless surfaced several days ago, but neither companies confirmed the information.

Today, the Big Red issued an official statement confirming the budget-friendly Moto G will be available for purchase beginning January 9.

Potential customers will be able to pick this one up for only $100 (€75) on prepaid. Keep in mind the Moto G will only be available online starting on January 9, but it will also arrive in stores in the coming weeks.

Although previous rumors suggested the Moto G may arrive in the United States with Android 4.4 KitKat onboard, it appears that Verizon's version will ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean platform out of the box.

However, Verizon confirmed an Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade will be available “in the near future.” In this regard, Boost Mobile will also launch the Moto G on January 14 and announced its device will be update to Android 4.4 KitKat as early as February, so Verizon's model might get it around the same timeframe.

According to Verizon, the Moto G can be paired with it prepaid plan options that start at $60 (€45) per month for unlimited talk, unlimited text and 2 GB of data. Users can upgrade to 4 GB of data for an additional $10 (€7) per month.

Motorola Moto G comes equipped with a 4.5-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

The smartphone is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.

Unfortunately, the handset does not pack microSD card slot for memory expansion, instead users are offered the chance to get 50 GB of Google Drive storage for two years, as long as the offer is redeemed within 30 days of activation.
